Telesco, Patricia. A Victorian grimoire : Enchantment, Romance, Magic. (St. Paul, Minn: Llewellyn, 1992). 362 p. Index. List of sources.

Despite a lacy title and silly cover, the Victorian Grimoire is a very solid text on witchcraft using the knowledge of the Victorians. Traditions, supersitions, and rules of thumb our foremothers used are integrated with basic magickal practice. Sections on Herbcraft, seasonal rituals, family rituals, housewifely magick, gardening, divination, and use of objects in magick are supplemented with a section on basic Witchcraft. Well researched-- though the author does stretch a bit (see the entry under Umbrella) occasionally-- and not self-aggrandizing.
